#1 of 50 State Capital Tour! Washington State Capital was my first stop since it’s my home State. My little brother also happens to live within walking distance of the Capital so there is that. He and my sister-in-law took me on an amazing all day 7 mile walk about Olympia that included historical neighborhoods, antique shops, the Capital campus, lunch with original recipe Oly Beer made from artesian well water, found the perfect dress for my nephews wedding & two blisters! I’d say that’s a pretty stellar day!
As for the Capital Building; really can’t say I would recommend their Capital Dome Deli. It reminded me more of a tiny convenience store with lots of bread, deli meats (yuk) and very tired pre-made salads that may have been in the cooler all week. It makes me sad to think this is what they’re offering the people who run our state government.
All was not lost however! It’s an absolutely beautiful building. With it’s dome at 287ft high it’s the tallest self-supporting masonry dome in the US and fifth tallest in the world! And Oh My Gosh! The Tiffany lamps are worth a visit in its self! The Capital has the largest collection of Tiffany bronze lamps in the world! The Rotunda sports the largest indoor light ever created by Tiffany. A jaw dropping 5 ton bronze Tiffany chandelier that is large enough to fit a Volkswagen Bug into. Staring at all the Swarovski Crystals in that building made me smile 🙂 I love “Sparklies”!
The icing on the cake was when I inadvertently asked Senator Liz Lovelett to take my picture and she suggested we take a selfie together! Supper nice lady! Thumbs up for the Washington State Capital Building ????
